Sophie Angus

I take a pragmatic and commercially minded approach to litigation, but I never lose sight of the personal impact disputes can have. I understand that for many clients, business conflicts are deeply personal, and I work to navigate them with clarity, empathy, and strategic focus.

Sophie is an associate in Spencer West’s London office, specialising in commercial litigation. She acts on a range of matters, from shareholder and partnership disputes to claims relating to breaches of directors’ fiduciary duties. She also has experience in other areas of contentious work, including property, construction, and insolvency-related matters.

Sophie joined Spencer West in 2020 as a commercial litigation paralegal, before commencing her training contract in June 2021 and qualifying as a solicitor in June 2023. Prior to this, she spent over three years as a paralegal at two London firms, gaining broad experience in commercial litigation.

She began her legal career at a boutique firm in Canary Wharf, specialising in international arbitration and commercial litigation, where she worked on matters involving property development, shipping and carriage of goods, and the enforcement of arbitral awards. She then moved to Vyman Solicitors, assisting the director of the firm’s Central London office in the litigation department. There, she handled disputes relating to company, partnership, and shareholder issues, as well as property disputes, adverse possession, breach of contract, and insolvency matters.

Sophie holds an undergraduate degree in History from the University of Exeter. She went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, receiving a commendation for both.
