Ruth Renton

With over 20 years of experience, I still love all aspects of employment law – yes, even TUPE – and helping my clients to make a positive difference in their workplaces. I believe in a diverse, equal workforce where every individual is recognised and valued, and I strive to do my best in this regard for every one of my clients.

Described as “a breath of fresh air,” Ruth is a highly regarded commercial employment lawyer, trainer, and author with over 25 years of experience in employment law. She has gained her expertise from top city law firms, including Allen & Overy LLP and Eversheds LLP. 

Ruth’s diverse client portfolio spans both the UK and international markets, with experience across sectors such as technology, energy (including gas, electricity, and renewable energy), education (schools and universities), hospitality, recruitment, and the charities/non-profit sector. 

In addition to her legal practice, Ruth offers bespoke, interactive employment law and HR training through seminars and webinars tailored to organisations. Popular topics include equality, harassment and diversity training, introduction to employment law for managers, and employment law updates. 

A regular speaker at external conferences, Ruth also serves as a visiting lecturer at The University of Law, teaching on the LLB, LPC, and SQE courses. She is the content author and presenter for Inmarkets International’s equality and diversity online training seminars. 

Ruth also conducts workplace grievance/disciplinary investigations and participates in conduct grievance and disciplinary hearings/appeal hearings through her separate HR consultancy business. 

Outside of her professional work, Ruth is passionate about volunteering and using her expertise to support the community. She has volunteered and advised on carer, pregnancy, and family-friendly advice lines and websites, including Maternity Alliance, WorkingMums, MamaTV, and Working Families. Ruth has also served as a governor, including as Chair of Governors at a 2,000-pupil state secondary school, where she successfully led the school out of Ofsted measures. Additionally, she is a trustee and fundraiser for several charities.
