Roy Montague-Jones

Having spent my entire career working with international clients, I am highly attuned to the impact of culture and local norms across a range of jurisdictions. I have advised and guided clients from many parts of the world, particularly India, in crafting practical and effective solutions for their business.

Roy is a highly experienced corporate and commercial lawyer with over 25 years as a partner in leading firms Simmons & Simmons, Richards Butler, and Reed Smith. He advises on cross-border investment, joint ventures, and bank lending transactions, with a particular focus on advising Asian investors on investment transactions across Europe. 

Roy co-chaired the India practice at Richards Butler and Reed Smith. His expertise in India has been recognised in independent legal directories, including the India Business Law Journal, Legal 500, Asia Pacific Legal 500, and Chambers Global. 

Roy has extensive experience advising clients in the energy, commodities, pharmaceuticals, and media sectors. In 2015, he was listed among the London Super Lawyers for his broader corporate work. 

Relevant experience includes advising: 

  • Dalian Wanda on its US$1.2 billion acquisition of a European sports media group from Bridgepoint funds and co-investors 
  • Wockhardt, an Indian-listed pharmaceuticals group, on acquisition, finance transactions, and debt restructuring 
  • A digital business consulting and technology services provider, based in New York, on its acquisition of a UK-based IT services group 
  • A UK investor in a joint venture in India in the food and beverages sector 
  • A UK financial adviser to an investor in Hong Kong on a recommended public offer for a UK-listed target 
  • A US activist shareholder on stakebuilding issues, and board and sale discussions in relation to a UK target listed on the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market 
  • A UK law firm in connection with an agreement with a litigation funder to finance claims brought in the English High Court
