Rich Risino

I help individuals and families navigate the full range of estate planning issues, from ensuring practical Wills and Powers of Attorney are in place to assessing the viability of trusts—whether to establish, vary, or terminate them. My clients typically have business interests, property portfolios, and assets across multiple jurisdictions, so I take a pragmatic, tax-efficient approach to estate administration and capital tax planning. With experience in corporate tax and offshore trust management, I provide clear, practical advice. Trusts are a particular focus—balancing tax considerations with personal circumstances to achieve the best outcome.

Rich is a Private Client Advisory Partner, advising individuals and families on personal tax and legal issues related to their estate and tax planning needs, primarily during their lifetime but also upon death, regardless of complexity or value.

With extensive experience working alongside both lay and professional trustees, Rich has significant expertise in all trust-related matters, whether in commercial or private client contexts. His instructions range from the creation of family trusts to assisting with the drafting of employee benefit, employee ownership, and trusts involved in corporate transactions. He advises on the full range of estate planning issues, including:

  • ensuring sensible, practical Wills and Powers of Attorney are in place as the foundation of any planning
  • assessing the viability of trusts—whether to establish, terminate, or vary them
  • navigating the administration of estates
  • executing capital tax planning to align with an individual’s wishes while maximising tax efficiency

Much of Rich’s practice is built on long-standing relationships with a close network of advisers, individuals, and families, often involving business interests and assets across multiple jurisdictions. He is well-versed in the commercial drivers and corporate tax issues that impact both individuals and their businesses’ tax positions. Most of his clients have active business interests, property portfolios, and assets in more than one jurisdiction. Having previously worked in a corporate-focused tax team and in-house for a professional offshore trustee, he is well placed to give practical and pragmatic advice.

Trusts are a particular focus—whether considering their viability, their establishment, or their termination—all of which are driven by both tax and other individual and personal circumstances. A particular area of interest for Rich is advising clients with connections to South Africa, particularly where there is a nexus to the UK.

A passionate advocate for pragmatic, careful, and certain handling of personal legal matters, Rich is dedicated to building strong relationships, whether addressing the simplest planning issues or navigating complex cross-border and challenging estate planning scenarios. He approaches all instructions with pragmatism and simplicity.
