Nigel has over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, commencing initially as a Site Engineer with George Wimpey, progressing to Senior Project Manager, and for the last 20 years as Construction Director and Group Health & Safety Director.
As a project manager, Nigel has been responsible for office fit outs, hospitals, supermarkets, hotels, theatres, health centres, extracare housing, and speculative housing. Nigel was also responsible for the project planning and co-ordination of the construction of the airport runways and taxiways for the new Hong Kong airport at Chek Lap Kok, as well as a major section of the fit out of the Petronas Twin Towers, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Nigel has extensive experience of both referring and defending adjudications, negotiation of amendments to JCT contracts and collateral warranties, and managing commercial, contractual, and health and safety risk.
Nigel spent 6 years as an elected Trustee of the Chartered Institute of Building, and during this time, chaired the Institute’s Audit and Risk Committee, Investment Committee, and Technology Board. Prior to this, Nigel chaired the Institute’s Professional Conduct Committee for 10 years.
Nigel has a master’s degree in Construction Law and Arbitration from Kings College, London, and this, together with his extensive construction management experience and knowledge provides for a comprehensive approach to dispute resolution.
Nigel has joined Spencer West to bring industry knowledge and experience to the Construction and Engineering team and to clients in regard to construction disputes, project management, and health and safety management.
