Mark Tan is an international tax Partner with over 20 years of experience helping companies structure their global operations. Combining accounting and legal expertise, Mark has held senior management roles across diverse markets, enabling businesses to optimise cross-border tax efficiency and compliance. His extensive in-house and legal background positions him as a leading strategist in the field.
Mark practised as a solicitor, primarily in the UK, but his most significant contributions have been in senior management roles at Asahi, The LEGO Group, and Louis Dreyfus Company.
At Asahi, Mark served as Head of Tax for the UK & Ireland, EMEA, and the Americas, where he built a high-performing tax function and led a major international restructure of the company’s operations. He successfully rationalised UK Alcohol Excise Duties and fostered strategic partnerships with HMRC, leaving a lasting impact on the organisation’s tax strategy and compliance.
At The LEGO Group, Mark implemented global tax planning strategies that reduced the effective tax rate and improved compliance across 15 jurisdictions. His leadership of a cross-functional international tax team and collaboration with country managers and tax authorities underscored his ability to navigate complex tax landscapes and achieve favourable outcomes.
At Louis Dreyfus Company, Mark managed tax matters across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. He enhanced the company’s global trader program and secured valuable tax benefits, demonstrating his skill in managing government relations, cross-border tax issues, and corporate structuring.
Earlier in his career, Mark developed his legal expertise at U.S. law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf in London, advising on international transactions, including M&A, capital markets, and corporate governance. This foundation complements his in-house experience, offering a holistic approach to international tax law.
Mark’s global career has enriched his adaptability and perspective in managing international tax affairs. He holds a Master of Law in International Taxation from the Australian Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of New South Wales, recognised globally for its prestigious law and commerce programs.
He is admitted to the Supreme Court of England and Wales as a solicitor and holds a current practising certificate with the Solicitors Regulation Authority. He is also an associate member of CPA Australia.
