David has a wealth of experience in all areas of corporate finance, gained over more than 35 years in private practice in London, Hong Kong, and across Asia and Europe. He has advised on major securitisation programmes, cross-border debt restructurings, M&A transactions, and fund structuring, working with company directors, interim managers, private equity investors, and growth companies navigating strategic transitions.
David has led legal teams and offices in London, Beijing, Brussels, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with a strong track record in international leadership, change management, and strategic repositioning. He has also served as a non-executive director, including as a senior independent director and deputy chairman, at listed companies in sectors such as vehicle telematics and oil services.
After five years in Hong Kong, David returned to the UK in 2016 and played a key role in helping to build Thor Lion as a niche law firm focusing on work for private equity and special situations investors in Europe. He joined Spencer West as a partner in 2023, where he continues to focus on a combination of legal advisory, board advisory, and corporate finance work.
He has extensive experience supporting European corporates and private equity investors with investments in China and South East Asia, as well as advising on Asia-Europe inbound investments.
Outside Spencer West, David acts as general counsel to several online businesses in Australasia and Gibraltar.
