Duncan McNair helps shape the Government’s Animals Abroad Bill
We’re delighted that our Partner Duncan McNair has been able to help shape the Government’s Animals Abroad Bill announced by the Defra Secretary in his Action Plan for Animal Welfare in May 2021. The Bill is aimed at banning the advertising, promotion and sale in the UK of low welfare (ie brutal) venues abroad where animals are abused for tourism.
In addition to driving up public awareness of the issues, Save The Asian Elephants (STAE www.stae.org) has been urging such legislation on Government as one of its key policies since Duncan founded it in 2015. STAE is thrilled HMG’s Action Plan is now extended to protecting all abused species, not just Asian elephants. But vast work lies ahead to get this into law, and working, and to urge all nations with such a brutal market to follow suit.
