Bina Gayadien on How Global Tariffs Impact Customer Experience
As global tariff disputes escalate, their impact is starting to ripple far beyond the manufacturing and trade sectors – reaching into customer experience (CX), workforce planning, and global operations.
In a recent feature by Customer Experience Magazine, industry experts outlined how the ongoing tariff conflict is creating widespread uncertainty. From the rising cost of imported goods to constrained hiring budgets and economic slowdowns, these developments are forcing businesses to reassess everything from recruitment to relocation strategies.
Partner Bina Gayadien shared her perspective on how tariffs are impacting UK businesses and their international growth plans:
“Tariffs create trade barriers that are likely to hamper growth. Lack of growth may worsen the economic outlook, potentially leading to higher taxes and job cuts.”
She also highlighted the consequences for international business mobility:
“In my industry – Global Mobility and Employment – tariffs could reduce demand and therefore international operations or expansions may need to be scaled back or scrapped. Companies with international operations in regions like Asia may decide to cut costs by sending fewer people on international secondments.
“This would directly affect the companies supporting UK businesses with their international relocations including tax, immigration, and relocation providers.
“Does that mean that we will see operations moved from Asia to the US? I am not sure. Much will depend on how other countries respond and if the US makes any changes to the recent announcements.”
While it’s unclear how countries will respond or whether operations might shift from Asia to the U.S., Bina emphasised that much depends on how the global trade landscape evolves in the coming months.
As businesses brace for potential long-term disruption, flexibility, strategic planning, and a people-first approach to change will be essential – both for internal operations and customer-facing experiences.
